This Friday Night, December 9th we'll be trokkin' out Christmas Island style at The Fr. Justin Knights of Columbus Hall on Union Rd. in Cheektowaga.

The show starts at 6:30, is all ages and features fun, frolic, Santa with your admission, a new unwrapped toy going to benefit the Buffalo Women's and Children's Hospital City Pediatric Clinics.

On a personal note, a special thank you to all the nurses, doctors and staff on the 4th floor who made my son Dylan's ear surgery this morning as pleasant of an experience as it could possibly be. You are truly amazing people.

Had the opportunity to drive out to Binghamton this past weekend and lend my solo talents to "Trokkin the Moose" a benefit show put on by The Pirates of The Susquehanna Parrot Head Club to raise funds for The Salvation Army Disaster Relief Fund and The Binghamton area Humane Society to assist in aid for victims of the TWO floods that ran through the area after Hurricanes Irene and Lee. A great time was had by all who attended, we raised some money for the cause and I had the opportunity to meet and play with some wonderful Trop Rock musicians from the area. Don Winfield from POTS took this video below of yours truly doing a bit of a duet with Pennsylvania Trop Rock Singer/Songwriter Dani Hoy on Son of a Son, that's her husband Dan in the background on the djembe' . Hey All:

I know that nobody wants to think about this but Summer 2011 is officially over on Friday, the leaves will start turning and the stores will start changing their Halloween displays over to Christmas. For those who have been Pirate Dreams fans for awhile you know that we tend to go into semi-hiatus during the winter months, but it's not for lack of trying. We enjoy playing all year round, it just seems that not that many people are up for another rousing rendition of "Margaritaville" in the middle of February. Help us keep that Palm Tree in Buffalo growing all year long. We're looking for venues, private party and house concert opportunities for the Fall and Winter months that wouldn't mind hosting a little summertime beach party this season. We're available in the full Pirate Dreams band, Jimmy and Marty duo, Jimmy solo or any configuration you can think of...

The Torgola Music Fest

We've always wanted to create a music festival to bring the Western New York Trop Rock scene to the a larger audience outside of the bar scene. Something fun,outdoors and as family friendly as Trop Rock can get. After many ideas were created and scrapped, we finally hit on a winner. With the help and blessing of The Friends of Evangola State Park we planned and put on the Torgola Music Festival within the already successful Evangola Pirate Fest that takes place the last weekend of July every year. We pulled in our friends Harbour Knights from the Bemus Point area of Lake Chautaqua as well as long time Pirate Fest duo Step in Time and Captain Cory and Crew, a young band that shows alot of promise and put on a show on Saturday, July 30th at Evangola State Park, amidst the Pirate Fest. The thousands that attended the Pirate Fest on that awesome Saturday were treated to a taste of what Trop Rock is all about and had a blast! ART AND MUSIC FEST: Main Street event debuts Saturday and Sunday

NIAGARA FALLS — If things go as planners hope, a legacy will be born this weekend.

Hopefully years from now, the Niagara Falls Art and Music Festival will have grown into one of the most popular music and art festivals in the region and those who took the ambitious first steps will be local heroes.

But, this weekend will have lots of people holding their breath as the art and music festival on Main Street comes to life in living colors and sounds.

"We actually feel people are excited about what we're doing," said Rick Crogran, president of the Main St. Business and Professional Association. "I'm nervous right now. I hope to God we get the people to support it. I think we will."

"This is a labor of love for all of us," he said of his planning committee, noting his hope that the event, created on a "shoestring," will be a "wake up call to the city about what we can do."

"A lot of the people involved in this remember what is was like to have fun in our city," he added. The hope is that plenty of fun will be had on Main Street Saturday and Sunday.

Singer/songwriter Ron LaSalle is co-chair of the music performances and is most proud of obtaining the Saturday headline band, Pirate Dreams.

"They have a Jimmy Buffet kind of music," he said. Also, his good friend, two-time Buffalo Hall of Fame musician Frank Grisanti will open for the Pirate Dreams.

The event, which begins at noon Saturday and Sunday, with an undetermined end time on both days, will feature over 20 musical performances, 72 vendors, a classic car show on Sunday, culinary samplings, wine and beer tastings and many booths and exhibits from local artisans and jewelers.

The event will be held rain or shine on Main Street, in front of the new Niagara Falls Municipal Complex and extend from Michigan to Niagara avenues.

So many in fact, that we find ourselves approaching 1000! So we decided to keep track. It's a dubious honor, but an honor nonetheless. As of tonight we're up to 905 and we're on pace to reach 1000.

The week after Christmas brings the World Junior Hockey Championships to downtown Buffalo and we're a part of it!

For the last 5 years The Evangola Pirate Festival has been a part of summer fun in the WNY Southtowns. Held during the last weekend of July at Evangola State Park, it features pirate fun, music, food, contests, treasure hunts and a full weekend of great times.

The weekend of July 30th, 2011 brings the 6th Annual Pirate Festival and a great addition, The Torgola Music Festival.

The Island of Tortuga was a legendary pirate port off the coast of Haiti where the buccaneers of the Caribbean planned their conquests, counted and spent their booty and told their stories of adventure, among other things.

The Island of "Torgola" is an addition to the successful Evangola Pirate Festival, a contemporary component featuring a concert by popular Jimmy Buffett tribute and "Trop Rock" group Pirate Dreams and other area trop rock bands.

This festival marks a celebration for Pirate Dreams, going into their tenth season and we're planning on pulling out all the stops on this one. Prizes, giveaways, vendors, even a mini beach or two all put together for a full day of family fun... We've always wanted to put together an outdoor summer festival and we're totally jazzed to be able to present this.

We're in the process of putting out sponsorship packages for area businesses and would really like your support to help make this happen, the more sponsors we get, the bigger we can make the event and the more bands we can book.

Other than the $7 per car parking fee at Evangola, this concert is free, all ages and open to the public. We're going to have a great time. To get more information and the most current news releases, hit http://www.torgola.com.

The Pirate Diaries: Rehearsal and WNY Trop Rock Festival

First rehearsal since spring. Was good to get back in the studio/practice room to get the creative juices flowing again. We became re-acquainted with some covers that had gone by the wayside with the replacements/additions we've made over the past couple years and it felt really good. We'll be changing up the sets in the next few months as well as debuting some new stuff.

Also had a meeting with some new friends earlier this week and I can't say much at this point but I can say that 2011 will bring the areas FIRST Trop Rock Music Festival to the southtowns. Stay tuned for more info as we nail down the details.

For a while now we've really been keeping track of how many times we've played Margaritaville. For the first couple seasons we did a featured called "Mandatory Margaritaville" where we played it once a set at every show. The play count really racked up.

As of today at Cradle Beach we've officially played Margaritaville 900 times! Not sure if that's good or bad but there it is...

Oinktoberfest

Great show last night opening the 9th annual Oinktoberfest BBQ festival and competition in Clarence. We got to meet really parrot head royalty, as the Parrot head king and queen were crowned for the weekend and we were introduced by Rob Liederman from 97 Rock.

Thought we were going to rained out when a little rain came down about 6pm but the weather held off and actually cleared up a bit for the show. (Cheeseburger in Paradise, Briskit in a bun, Pulled Pork on a Pita, what's the dif?)

Big thanks to everyone there, Dave our soundman did a great job and fun was had by all. (Pigs to the left, Pigs to the right!)

We played for the Parrot Heads at the American Legion Post in Orchard Park last night and Gary played the night on a stand up bass. Pretty sweet. We'll be up at the Youngstown Yacht Club closing the festivities at the 2009 LEVEL Regatta at 3pm today. Come on down and say hello to Gary....

Big Freakin Yahooz and welcome to new crew member Gary Gorski, the newest member of the band, shanghai'd into service during our last R&R stopover in Tortuga. Gary will be pounding out the low notes on the bass guitar along with Commodore Bill in the rhythm section.

We made Landshark Dave walk the plank, just kidding... The band wishes Dave luck in his future endeavors and when we find out what they are, we'll let you know about it here...

Hey y'all. Sorry Its been along time since I've been home.

Anyway just wanted to send out some personal greetings to those of you that follow the band PirateDreams and enjoy spending your slacker time visting the website.

I'm not going to bore you with trivial bs so I'll just cut to the quick. I'll be working with the band, helping them book various and sundry gigs (not just in the warm climes of WNY but elsewhere Buffett's music is needed). But I'll also be helping out with some webcast on tropicast.com and anything else PirateJimbo would like me to achieve.

Had the pleasure of christening a new particular harbor this past Sunday. A venue called Crazy Jake's, just off the canal in North Tonawanda, NY on Webster St. With the boats in the slips a half a block away, a sun filled sky and a breeze coming in from the west, this was a great place to spend a Sunday Memorial Day afternoon with a bunch of friends/cohorts. We'll be back the Wednesday of CanalFest, a great area festival that packs them in from miles around. Thanks, Mary, thanks Mike and thanks everyone for truly an exceptional afternoon.

Show Review: Holimont Ski Resort

Every once in a while a show comes along where the vibe is so strong that you know hours before you start to play that this is going to be one of those shows that you're going to remember. This was the case with the show we played last night at The Holimont Ski Resort in Ellicottville, NY. I walked in at about 4pm for a 6pm start and the place was packed already, with folks of all ages, 2 and 3 year old to folks in their 70's and 80's all decked out in their tropical finest, parrots, hibiscus printed caps, tropical shirts and the like just having a great time.

The duo Son Of A Son had started at 3 and kicked off the afternoon. It was an interesting setup. Although the resort had a bar and food concessions set up, they also allowed people to bring in coolers as well, so it resembled an indoor Parror Head tailgate of sorts, with folks staking out and setting up camp on the tables throughout the room. Palm trees, parrots, tiki bars and raffia skirts were the order of the day along with plenty of tropical cocktails, Corona, Landshark Lager and anything else you could imagine. Even so the little ones were running around in grass skirts, leis, dark sunglasses and other paraphenalia and all was right with the world.

Long about 6pm we started playing and from the first note to the last, the crowd was pumped. We went through our standard Buffett favorites, some PD classics and our other favorites, the Petty, Barenaked Ladies, Travelling Wilburys and appartently we did something right, because at the end of the show we were called back to play Two encores.

We got alot of compliments last night but what the folks don't realize is that we should be thanking them and we did... repeatedly. When you get a crowd that pumped and so into what you're doing it makes it so easy to put on an energetic show. To all the folks who honored us with their compliments, their applause and most importantly, their Jell-o shots, we say one more thank you. You made it very fun for us.

Seems like every year we do a redesign on the site. A new look, new functionality and one step closer to full functionality and ease of use. We decided to try a "Blog" format. This gives us a web based platform on which we can add news, updates and new content on the fly, wherever we happen to be. This also give folks to opportunity to communicate more effectively with us, commenting on posts, giving us feedback and such.
